At the closing ceremony of this year’s El Gouna Film Festival, Khaled Youssef received the festival’s lifetime achievement award. In his acceptance speech he thanked his mentor Youssef Chahine “for teaching me that a director’s job is to keep looking, even when the country asks you to look away.”
